Clinical Indications

The clotting screen is a group of tests used pre-operatively to assess bleeding risk and to monitor bleeding conditions

Includes PT, APTT and fibrinogen level.

If an inherited coagulopathy is suspected clinically or from a family history, please request a Bleeding Disorder Screen instead.

Specimen

Fresh citrated Blood; sample must be received by the laboratory within 4 hours of collection.

Clean venepuncture. Samples must be received by the laboratory within 4 hours of collection.

Causes for Rejection

Underfilled, clotted, haemolysed or if sample is too old.
