Clinical Indications

Rapidly progressive glomerulonephritis (RPGN)

Goodpasture's Disease

Acute renal failure

Please note: Early diagnosis is important as untreated patients will suffer extensive tissue damage which in extreme cases may result in death. It has been noted that 10-35% of patients with anti GBM antibodies also have anti-neutrophil antibodies (ANCA).

Test Includes

Detection of IgG antibodies against the non-collagenous portion of type IV collagen.

No special preparation is required.

Causes for Rejection

Unlabelled/inadequately labelled sample

Inadequately completed request form

Delay in sample reaching laboratory.

Laboratory Handling 

Aliquot and store at 4-8°C prior to testing and at -20°C or below for up to 1 month after receipt.

Reference Range

Samples will be tested for the presence of anti GBM by Enzyme Immunoassay (EIA).
Negative <20 U/mL
Positive   >20 U/mL
