Detection of Hepatitis B virus by polymerase chain recation
Early detection of Hepatitis B infection, for example following
needlestick involving high risk donor.
Request via the ICE System.
On request during normal hours; reference laboratory test
(Addenbrookes or Birmingham).
Please give detailed clinical information, including date of
onset/contact with the suspected infection and any treatment given,
to enable the correct test(s) to be performed. If the investigation
involves a health care worker please contact the Microbiology
Department before collecting the sample.
7 to 10 days.
Purple Top (EDTA).
Samples should be transported to the laboratory immediately.
Causes for Rejection
Unlabelled/inadequately labelled sample.
Delay in sample reaching laboratory.
