Gastric Parietal Cell Antibodies
Screening test for detection of IgG autoantibodies against
Gastric Parietal Cells.
Please note: a positive result is not diagnostic as antibodies can
be present in other disorders and healthy individuals

It is essential to provide relevant clinical information
All tests are performed on the next routine working day after
receipt of the sample

Causes for Rejection
Unlabelled/inadequately labelled sample
Inadequately completed request form
Delay in sample reaching laboratory
Aliquot and store at 4-8°C prior to testing and at -20°C or
below for up to 1 month after receipt.
Sera are screened at a dilution of 1/20 (paediatric samples at
1/10). Titres greater or equal to 1/20 will be tested for the
presence of anti Intrinsic Factor.
A positive gastric parietal cell antibody is most often associated
with Pernicious anaemia and thyroid disease.
