Syphilis serology

Test Includes

Screening test for detection of IgG and IgM antibodies to Treponema pallidum

Included in the routine ante-natal screen

Specific Criteria

Please give detailed clinical information, including date of onset/contact with the suspected infection

Turnaround Time

Tests are performed weekly, usually on a Wednesday. Samples giving a positive screening test result will be reported as such and sent to a Reference Laboratory (Bristol) for further tests. Results of these tests will usually be available 7 - 10 days after the date of the original in-house screening test

Lab Handling

Aliquot and store at 4°C; store at -40°C for 3 months after testing
