Urine albumin

Clinical Indications

Urine Albumin is measured as part of the urine/albumin creatinine ratio in the investigation of microalbuminuria in Diabetes Mellitus and in the further investigation of chronic kidney disease stage 3a and above.

Early morning urine sample required

Patient Preparation

No vigorous sporting exercise or sexual activity for 2 days before collection. Samples should not be collected when there are symptoms of UTI or thrush.

Collection

Samples should be transported to laboratory immediately.

Causes for Rejection 

Unlabelled or incorrectly labelled sample; not early morning urine; delay of more than 5 days in sample reaching laboratory or in wrong sample container
