We run a number of events at the centre, see below for details and booking information

Drop in sessions, everyone welcome

We offer two relaxation and exercise sessions at the centre:

Mediation and relaxation - Every Tuesday morning from 10am at the centre

Seated Yoga -  Every Wednesday 10-11am at the centre

Elevenses
1st Tuesday of every month

Come for Coffee and a Chat. This is a support group for patients and carers at any point during the cancer journey. We discuss topics such as fatigue, sleeping difficulties, managing strong emotions. If there is a topic you think we should raise, please let us know.

Benefits Drop-in

The Benefits team now run a drop in service on Friday's between 10.30-12.30 in the Radiotherapy Unit and between 1.30 and 3.30 in the Macmillan Centre.  If your personal circumstances are complex it is advised that you make an appointment using the contact details above.  This is drop-in service is for initial contact only. For other benefit issues/questions please arrange an appointment by calling 0800 019 6008

Look good feel better - Pampering therapy

This is a workshop for women who are undergoing or have completed cancer treatment.  The workshop is run by trained beauticians and teaches participants skin care and make-up techniques with particular reference to managing changes in appearance due to cancer treatment.  It is an opportunity to spend an enjoyable session with other participants who are also on their cancer journey.

Booking is required.  Please arrive 15 to 30 minutes early to settle and grab a cup of tea or coffee.  We unfortunately cannot accommodate family or friends for these sessions.

Headstrong

This workshop is offered either as a group or 1:1 session. It provides support and information to those affected by hair loss due to cancer treatment.

Complementary Therapy

We are now offering volunteer-led complementary therapy sessions at the centre for patients and carers affected by cancer:  Acupuncture, reflexology and massage.  A course of treatments consists of four treatments which is free of charge but a donation is appreciated.

Active Life Through Recovery

Exercise programme for cancer patients provided by Active Life. Thursdays 11.15 at St Lukes Community Centre, Southend SS2 4AB.  The sessions are free but pleae book a place on 01702 567327

Walking Football

Every Saturday 11.00 - 12.00 alternate weeks at Rayleigh Leisure Centre and Clements Hall. Cost £3.00.  For further information please contact Steve Dowding on 07821 648644 steve.dowding@hawkwellfc.com

HOPE  (Help Overcome Problems Effectively)

This course is for patients who have completed their cancer treatment and want to improve their self-management skills in a supportive environment.  The course covers managing stress and fatigue, communication, intimacy, healthy eating, exercise and setting goals for the future.  It is a six weeks course with weekly 2.5 hour sessions. Moving Forward course

This is a course for patients who have completed treatment for breast cancer. It is a four week course with 2.5hr weekly session, providing information and support to help participants to adjust and adapt to their life now treatment has finished. If you are interested please contact us here at the centre or Breast Cancer Care on 0345 077 1895 or email movingforward@breastcancercare.org.uk  This course is provided by Breat Cancer Care.

Wig Service

This service is for patients who are experiencing hair loss due to cancer treatment. Your clinician should refer you for this service but if you are unsure whether you have been referred or you have not been given an appointment please drop in to see us or call us. The wig fitter will help you choose a wig and order it for you, this wig is free to NHS patients.
