Nuclear medicine

Our nuclear medicine team offer a comprehensive and responsive nuclear medicine service to the local population, as well as providing support and advice to nuclear medicine departments in neighbouring hospitals.

We use radioactive materials to help to diagnose and treat your illness. Medicines that you take may move to different parts of your body when you are ill. We can tag drugs with radioactive tracers so that we can see them move around your body using a gamma camera; the pictures that the gamma camera takes are called radioisotope scans.

Our team

Our nuclear medicine team consists of nuclear medicine technologists, radiologists and radiographers, each bringing a wide variety of skills, knowledge and expertise our hospital. We offer a comprehensive range of scans and therapies to patients referred by a consultant and GP.
