Nephrology (renal medicine)
We have 28 haemodialysis stations in our main renal unit and four stations for acute dialysis on our inpatient ward, with capacity to provide a holiday and ad hoc dialysis service.
We provide dialysis care for around 130 patients in South
Essex, whilst transplants are usually performed at the Royal London
Hospital. Our main renal unit includes the peritoneal dialysis
office and training room and outpatient services, including general
nephrology, dialysis review, low clearance and transplant
follow-up.
Our team
We have a multidisciplinary team of consultants, nurse
specialists and renographers. Our unit has extensive experience of
training non-nursing dialysis staff to perform all aspects of
haemodialysis including the needling of fistulae and use of
dialysis catheters, out-of-hours and emergency dialysis (seniors).
The training has been adapted to fit with the development of the
NVQ in dialysis. We also have an HCA working in peritoneal
dialysis.
Renal PatientView
Renal PatientView is a project of RIXG, a UK group representing
renal patients and the renal team. It aims to provide online
information about renal patients' diagnosis, treatment and their
latest test results. Patients can share this information with
anyone they want and view it from anywhere in the world. Click here
to find out more.
